The trip from Adelaide to Melbourne was amazing. The bus tour picked us up from our hostel at 6.05am (it was so early!!) Our first stop was to see a mob of white kangaroos (not albino), they were really sad as they burn really easily apparently. Next was the Grampians National Park which meant we crossed the border in to Victoria. The Grampians were hard work, and a lot of climbing over and under rocks but the final views were stunning and well worth it - this has been my favourite place so far. Next we headed to the McKenzie Falls, after climbing down 256 steps we saw a beautiful waterfall however the climb back up the stairs nearly killed both of us. After that exhausting day we eventually got back to our accommodation to find out that we had to cook our own dinner. Finally we got to chill at about 10pm.
The next day we headed out at about 7am to get up close to some wild kangaroos - we saw a baby Joey in its mums pouch. Then we arrived at our first hard walk of the day, twice the length of the first day, this one was 4.8km up hill. But all the way up there was something to look at and take lots of pictures. We walked through massive canyons and the smallest of gaps to reach the Pinnacle of the Grampians, and once again the views were spectacular!! We followed the coast up on the Great Ocean Road, which is cut into the mountains. The beaches and rocks along the way were so pretty that we stopped at most of the look-out points, so we have lots of pictures and not sure which rock is which. In the end we took pictures of the signs to remind us. Our guide gave us all the option of going up in a helicopter and seeing the amazing 12 Apostles rock formation from the air, so me and Rich decided to do it - I needed a little persuading but decided it was a good idea as I knew that my mum and dad hadn't done it yet and also that the views would be so incredible it would definitely be worth it. The ride was awful, so bumpy and enclosed, I got really bad travel sick, but it was still a huge highlight of my trip. Check out the pictures, they're awesome!!!! After our ride we headed to a really cool beach called Shipwreck Cove, it has a really cool old story that goes with it about a ship that crashes and sinks just off the coast but two people survive. Even now you can still find things that came off the ship - we only found glass from bottles but our driver found an old coin once and is getting it valued. Afterwards we went to our accommodation for the night, it was horrid. Somehow the room that we stayed in had bird poo on our beds, and loads of mosquitoes and other bugs - so I didn't get much sleep. While we were there though our guide drove us to the 12 Apostles to see it at sunset - the sunset wasn't that good as it went behind a big blanket of cloud, but there was a good atmosphere.
The next day we headed back to the 12 Apostles but this time from the bottom on the beach, we had to walk down the Gibson Steps which were cut into the rock years and years ago, so they were really old and worn. After that we headed towards the Otway Fly which was a tree top walk through a temperate rainforest, it was quite boring as there was no difference between the types of trees and bushes. There was a really huge tree there though it was massive. Then we headed down the surf coast and had lunch in a nice town called Angelsea. We also stopped in the major surfer town of Torquay where there was loads of shopping to do (this is where Billabong, O'Neil etc. come from). Then onto Melbourne. Luckily we stayed in Base hostel in the St. Kilda area of Melbourne where our friends we made on the trip and the driver stayed so we all went out in the evening for a few drinks and some food. It was a really good way to end an awesome 3 days!!
