TASMANIA!
We just got back from an awesome 5 day trip to Tassie! Managed to get an awesome relocation campervan deal where we got paid to drive back a camper to Hobart-ideal!
We caught an overnight ferry from Melbourne to Devonport, arrived at 7am in the morning and whizzed straight to our first destination, Cradle Lake Mountain. Did a 2 hour walk around the lake, the weather was a bit wet and windy but it was still cool! Without wasting anymore time, we made our way past Launceston over to the East coat and stayed in a place called Falmouth for the first night, which was a cool surfing spot.
In the morning we drove down the coast to the Freycinet National Park. We drove through some weeeeeird tasmanian towns, literally ghost towns, empty shops and cafes, no one walking around or anything! (The locals were odd!)
Arrived at Coles Bay where we were met by some cute wallabies, we were feeding them by the car which was ace! We did an awesome 4 hour walk up to Wineglass bay viewpoint, (the picture on this blog) down to the beach, then around the mountains. It was such a beautiful beach, words really cant describe the view! We had perfect weather all day so it was awesome!
Powering on again in our nippy Britz van, that evening we drove down the coast trying to get a bit closer to Port Arthur to save driving the next day. We went along a dirt track through Wielangta State forest, kangaroos were flying out over the road left, right and centre! Arrived at Eaglehawk which had a lovely beach, we parked in a small carpark for the night and made a nice curry for the evening-well earnt after all our trekking that day!
On monday we went down to Port Arthur historical site, saw some awesome viewpoints on the way down, including the Devils Kitchen. Port Arthur was cool, saw the prison ruins where British prioners were held, we had a good tour guide which told us the history, the oldest person to be held there was 93! savage. Also had a nice boat ride around the harbour and saw the Isle of the Dead and the Juvenielle prisoners island. It was such a lovely area, with big lawns and nice oak trees and a lovely harbour, hard to imagine it back in the day when the area was in use as a prison!
Stayed in a place called Kingston on Monday evening which is just past Hobart. Parked on the beach front and cooked are dinner as the sun went down. It was a great spot, we got talking to two other french girls who were travelling around in a van which was cool.
Finished off our final couple of days in the second oldest city in Australia, Hobart. It was quite cool there, had a nice walk around the Botanical gardens which were beautiful, tried out the local fish&chips...(nothing on the london fryer!) However, the whole town would shutdown at like 5.30pm - strange.
Overall we had a great time, the landscape was incredible, so much to take in!
Bring on Sydney for Christmas and New Year!!!!!!!
