Hello guys,
Have been doing some exploring in the South of Oz for the last week! Caught an overnight coach from Melbourne to Adelaide last friday, which took 10 hours, bit of a killer but i was sat next to a really nice old french lady, (shaz you would have been in your element!)
Stayed in a seaside town called Glenelg which was pretty cool. It had a lovely beach and cool shops! Stayed there for a few days and hung out with some cool people from the UK and a mad ozzie who used to do jagerbombs at 1pm in the afternoon!
I went with a cool tour group upto the Grampian Mountains which is north of Adelaide. On our way up there on the first day we stopped off to do some wine tasting, it was like being back in Tuscany, the vine yards were lovely. Its a family run business so when we arrived we dropped our stuff off at the hostel which the family run and made our way to the national park to do some adventure caving! Has anyone seen the film called The Descent?!
We put on boiler suits, shin pads and helmets and made our way through the pitch black caves. It was absolutely crazy, we were climbing through tiny tunnels on all fours. You couldnt even turn your head around in some of the tunnels they were so small! It was really freaky as if you got stuck or freaked out, there was no way to get out but to keep going! EEEEEK. We crawled through one tunnel in the pitch black and turned the lights on our helmets out. Wild. Really cool afternoon, it was awesome fun and a good challenge. From there we went back to the hostel where they had a jacuzzi and a fire outside. We all sat around and had dinner and some beers in the evening. Everyone on the tour was really cool, a real mix of people from Germany, Holland, France, Canada and England.
The next day we were up at 6am to go the Grampian National Park to climb Mount Zero. On the way there, our tour guide Foggy told us how an English girl got bitten by a death adder (or something on those lines) with her tour who climbed the mountain the week before, apparently its extremly rare for anyone to survive but luckily she did! It was an awesome view from the top, well worth the mission up there. From Mount Zero we made our way to the Macenzi falls which was an awesome waterfall in the forest, followed by a stop off to Lake Morror Morror ( Aboriginal for spirit ) which was an awesome look out. We also stopped off at an Aboriginal centre and went to find some kangaroos in the wild before making our way to a hostel at the start of the Great Ocean Road, in a town called Wornabal. Saw an awesome sunset on Wornabals beach before getting an early night in the hostel!
The next day we did the legendary Great Ocean Road which was awesome fun. It is an incredible coast line which runs along the coast inbetween Adelaide and Melbourne. (However i think Cornwalls coast line is just as nice!)We saw all of the famous formations the Bay or Marters, London Bridge, the devils hole, the 12 Apostles etc. The cliffs were amazing and the stacks in the sea were incredible. The ocean was such an amazing blue and the sand was pure white! Magical. We did an amazing helicopter ride along the coast and saw all of the famous formations, it was great to see it from in the air and the pilot did some crazy turns to make us all freak out! Great fun.
After the helicopter ride we did a cool rainforest drive where we stopped off to see some Kualas in the wild! It was cool to see them all in the trees, i managed to get really close up to one that had climbed down the tree when we had arrived. So cute! From there we stopped off at Apollo Bay, Bells beach which has the famous break so its really popular for surfing and then our final stop was in Torquay. Its a cool surfing town with loooooads of surf shops, however, it has nothing on the real thing in Devon. (Our Torquay is waaaaaay better!)
So that brings me back to Melbourne. Im now winging it on my own and will be meeting the rest of the guys for festive fun in Sydney next week! Ive managed to get a really good van relocation deal from Melbourne to Syd,(like the one to Tasmania) its a campervan with a toilet, shower, kitchen, double bed and it comes with bedding, cutlery etc! Its costing $5 a day! SPLENDID! So i will be leaving on Saturday to spend four days travelling up the south east coast before hitting Manly for Crimbo!
To kill some time before i leave on saturday, im going to watch the local penguins in St Kilda come out of the sea and go back to their rock homes tonight. They stay in the sea all day and when the sun sets, they all come out and walk on the beach before going to the rocks. Apparently its an emotional experience! Saturday im going on the official neighbours tour to visit all of the set!! Lassiters, the coffee shop and the school etc are all on the cards!
Hope you guys are all good and that everyone has an aaaaaaamazing Christmas!!!! Hope everyone drinks plenty of mulled wine and eats lots of mince pies.
BRING ON COME DINE WITH ME!! Kid and Waite i know you die hard fans are loving it, what bants, everyone should come down for the filming hahaha.
