Just jumped into bed after a huge day at disneyland!! Didn't even get time to blog this morning for yesterday as we woke up late and had to get our but into gear quick smart.
So yesterday:
Woke up and did the usual for breaky, the girls hit the shops and gez and I headed off to hit up a local gym..again. Another 25 euro another atrociously equiped 'gym' about the size of our kitchen... I could go on further about how crap it was but ill leave it at that. Met up with the girls after our 'work out' and had some lunch at a local restaurant in town. We then headed to sacre ceur via cab. Was really busy with tourists, especially being a saturday. Once again it was really impressive but there's only so long you can look at it. Plenty of street vendors, gypsies and other types grabbing you trying to sell you stuff, sign stuff or 'put your finger in some string', so we didn't hang aroudn there long. Explored the local shops in the area for a bit, gez and I purchased a PSG scarf each for the game. Afterwards we found a nice quiet cafe and sat out front having crepes and coffees, whilst looking out to the street which was nice n relaxing.
Headed back to the apartment to drop off the girls shopping and then headed to champs to find gez a jacket and beanie, more shopping yay...That didn't take all that long so walked home shortly after to rest up and have a few drinks before the soccer...
The soccer, what an experience. Where do i start.. We caught a cab to the game quite early to grab a bite before kick off. It was incredibly busy so the only place we could find that wasn't jam packed was a moroccan restaurant. Can't say i've ever had morroccan before but it was actually quite nice. Not something you'd want all the time but it was great for something different. Once we'd stuffed ourselves we made our way to the stadium. It took a while to find what gate to get into, especially with the language barrier but we got there. The first thing you notice is that most of the surrounding streets are closed and there are cops friggin everywhere! Not just cops tho, i'm talking cops dressed in riot gear, with shields and the works. We spoke to one whilst asking for directions and he explained that a few years ago it was crazy at the football here and as tourists we would never have came to a game a couple of years ago. Once inside, although still early, it was a sight to see. PSG have two stadiums in paris and this was the small one but once it got full it was electric! They say that there is nothing like a full house at the mcg, which is true but soccer fans are a completley different kettle of fish. Being aussie, i've never really experienced anything like it. Also couldn't believe how cheap beer was at the game.. $3.5 euro... unheard of in australia.
The chants from the crowd was bone tingling and even the girls were in awe. It really is like a religion for some people. Before the players come out the loud speaker dude introduces each player for the home team and the crowd screams each players last name and cheers them on to the field.
As for the game, it wasn't all that spectacular, PSG won 3-1 but dominated majority of the game and the opposition hardly looked interested. At least we saw some goals; can also see why PSG are on top of the table, class act it seems.
Regardless, it was a fantastic experience. I'd love to be able to go to a full house premier league game, perhaps next time I'm in europe.
After the game it was busy as everywhere so we ended up walking out away from the stadium and getting a tad lost. Took probably 30-45minutes to get a cab and it was freezing. Only 0/minus 1 but it was the first time we've been cold, so once we got home pretty much crashed.
Today:
Woke up at 8:30 which is late for as, especially considering we'd hoped to leave by 9. We quickly got ready, ate and grabbed coffees on the way. For some reason people in paris really don't know how to froth milk. The coffees are OK when you get a long/short black but if you get a cap, unless from starbucks, it is putrid. Anyway got our coffees, chucked them out and got on the metro towards disneyland. A cabbie told us the night before that we needed at least two days to do it properley and he couldn't have been more right. It was a great day but we arrived at about 11 and left after close around 8:30 and still didn't get everything done. It's huge!!!
A lot of it is aimed at kiddies which is understandable, so after exploring for a bit, we found a map and located the 'big thrill ' rides. I won't list everything we went on but mainly rollercoasters which were pretty cool. Of course plenty of waiting in line but it was worth it. Was also quite impressed with Gez, who is (or was) a self confessed woos when it came to rides. He came on every ride with us. The first few he hated and was quite moody haha but after we went on some space rollercoaster, he actually enjoyed, he couldn't get enough of it! Although he wouldnt admit it hahaha.
Overall I've really enjoyed Paris, it's a beautiful, really clean city. The majority of people are incredibly cheerful and friendly. The amount of time spent here was just about perfect as I think we're all (especially gez) getting a bit sick of bagguettes and bread. Not saying you can't get other things to eat here but it's pretty much what we've been living on. I also don't think the people at the bakery a few doors down will be sad to see us go. Unfortunately everytime we go to get our breaky supplies, they just don't seem impressed that we keep coming back. We're always polite and try our best with the little french we know but it's very obvious we're not their biggest fans.. Oh well, their crossoints are amazing, can't say the same for their coffee tho.
Not sure if i've said this in previous blogs but I've also found Paris to be so much cheaper than i imagined. Prior to visiting, i had the impression that Paris was hellishly expensive. I know it probably helps that the AUD is strong at the moment but even in the centre of Paris, food and the majority of things are on par with melbourne prices, if not sometimes cheaper.
Anyway everyone else is asleep after quickly packing up our things before bed. We have to be up at about 8 to clean up the apartment as the owner is coming at 10AM to check up on it's condition and give us our bond (hopefully) =]. We head to London on eurostar (train) at 1 i think and although I wasn't the biggest fan of London last time i visitied, I'm looking forward to a change of scenery.
Sleep time it is, apologies for spelling mistake and anything that doesn't make sense etc, have been struggling to keep my eyes open whilst typing. Wanted to get this done tho, as I'm not sure if we have wifi in our London apartment.
Anyway until next time, goodnight or 'bons nwee' =]
