We had a lovely time in Kanchanaburi. We booked a day tour with our guest house to go and see the sights.
We were picked up at 8.00am and were taken to the Erewan Falls which was a 2 hour drive away from Kanchanaburi. The waterfalls are on seven different levels and the locals think it is sacred as they think it makes up the face of an elephant but I couldn't see it myself.
We went swimming in the second and third level. The water was really clear, a bit cold but refreshing. The worst bit was when you tried to get out, all the fish sucked your ankles. I screamed and all the locals laughed at me. The third level was where the water slide was, where you can see Liam sliding down it in the photos. The guide took us behind the water fall which was really good, he said the waterfall is like a massage if you lie underneath it but it bloody hurt!
After lunch we were taken to Hell Fire Pass museum. It was only a little place where it explained to you what happened in the war and what the conditions were like for all the prisoners of war. There is a walk behind the museum down the Hell Fire Pass. When you get down there you can see where they blasted away the rock for the railway. We were then taken to death railway where the train picked us up and we travelled on it for a few minutes then got off as alot of it is not acessable anymore.
We then had a short stop at the bridge over the river kwai. It was very busy though. The film wasn't even filmed here! Really good day.
We went to the local Tiger Temple. It is advertised everywhere so we thought we would take a look. It wasn't very nice though. The tigers were all chained up, they didn't look very happy. They must be drugged up as they would have eaten us! I think it was more of a tourist attraction.
We had to go back to Bangkok for a few days and now we have come down to Hua Hin. The King lives here apparently. We are not that impressed so we are moving on to Koh Samui tomorrow on a night bus to find a decent beach.
Hope you like all the photos. xxx
