Hi Peeps
As you can tell by now we are now in Malaysia.
After Koh Pha Ngan we made our way across to the west coast of Thailand to Krabi. It was low season there so we managed to get a room for about 3 pound a night with hot water and a tv (yes hot water is a luxury out here). But because it is low season it rained and rained and rained all day long, not much fun.
We did a Thai cookery course there though so we will be able to invite you over for a traditional Thai meal (when we have a kitchen). We really wanted to go to Koh Phi Phi but the weather is the same rain rain rain so we decided to make our across the boarder to Malaysia instead as they don't have as much rain.
We got a bus to Penang first of all but we really didn't like it there. Its was really dirty and I get the impression that the men dont like women from the looks I was getting. We did a tour around the island with Jimmy who was the owner of the guest house we were staying at. He was really nice to us he took us in his car and even lent us some money until we could get to a cash point. It was like being taken out by your dad for the day. He made us try Durian fruit which the lonely planet describes as smelling like vomit/rotting flesh but he told us it tastes better than it smells, well we can tell you that it bloody doesn't its foul, Liam was neally sick. He took us all around the island, I'm glad we did it but I have no desire to go back there.
We moved across to the east coast to Khota Baru which was recomended by the guide book as a must place to see. But its a s*** hole! (Liams words not mine) The guest house we stayed in was like a zoo there were rabbits jumping around everywhere and turtles in buckets and lots of mangy cats! The room was a box with a bed but it was cheap.
The next day we moved on to the Perhentian Islands which has got the best beaches in Malaysia and it definatley lived up to that. The white sand and the clearest water we have ever seen. It is really hard to get accomodation on Long beach which was the most popular beach. You just have to get a boat over and go from one guest house to the next hoping you will get something. We got one after about an hour. It was very basic and over priced but you have no where else to go so they can charge what they like but the price did include our evening meal so that wasnt so bad.
The island doesn't have any mains electricity and they only power up the generator between 7.00 pm and 8.00am. But while we were there the generator broke so we had two nights by candle light. We deciced to leave after 3 nights and I'm glad we did as last night we had a suprise visitor in our room. A RAT!!!! Liam had to chase it away, I couldn't sleep after that so we were up early to pack our bags only to see a bloody BAT fly in our room. It was a beautiful island but very backward there was only one place that sold beer!!!
Now we are in the Cameron Highlands which is in central Malaysia we have only just arrived but it is a lot cooler up here, a bit like September in England, still warm enough for t-shirts. The room is quite cheap so we will probably be here for a few days as we have alot of time to kill as our flight to Oz isn't until 1st September but we are thinking of bringing it forward if possible but we will see.
Hope you all had a good time at Adams 21st.
Missing you all
Lots of Love Carey and Liam xxx
