We headed to Taupo last Friday afternoon. Once we got there, we checked out all the brochures in the lobby of out hostel and decided what kinds of things we wanted to do while we were there. Then we went to the hostel bar for the night. I met some cool people including a guy from Tasmania who does deep sea diving for half the year and travels for the other half. Pretty cool life, eh?
The next morning, we woke up early and went to Taste Cafe. It had a really cool atmosphere with a bird flying around inside and an area for children to play. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese for $ 8.50. Then we went to Huka falls and took a hike from there to the Dam. We hiked right through a place where they harvest trees, it was pretty cool.
Sunday, we played mini golf down the road from our hostel and then I went to Crater of the Moon- A steamy field of craters. It was really interesting when you could hear the hissing and bubbling of the mud in the craters from the lava in the centre of the earth.
That night, I met my new roommates, two Australian college students, who were really nice and we all went to the Hostel bar to hang out and meet some people.
The next day, I climbed Mt. Tauhara. It was one of the coolest experiences of my life. There was a small trail leading up the mountain, and really great views at the top.
