Best Day Ever!
I know I have said this but ...
BEST DAY EVER.
Right, point form til I can write it up on the bus tomorrow.
( Also finish yesterday's and the Gallipoli one. )
Falling a bit behind here.
Waiting at the the wrong steps.
Emily running up hill to get me from the other steps.
Meeting Kim and Jeff from the Netherlands.
Greeting Rianna from the boat Amores One with " Happy Birthday" and giving her the kangaroo.
Brilliant weather.
5 different spots to swim in coves in the Aegean.
Emily cliff jumping.
Very salty sea.
Message in a bottle .... overboard!
40 odd degrees back on land.
Wonderful food
Pool
Dinner
Blog
So we walk up the roadway to the entrance ( we thought ) and sat and waited for our bus ride.
We were waiting at the wrong steps high up the hill by the road.
They would have found us but Emily went back to the hotel for a quick rest stop.
Next thing I see is her running up the hill towards me ...
" It's 35 degrees already. What's she doing?"
Between panted breathes...
Found 'other' steps ... Quick ... Come.
So funny, the people she bolted past, who turned out to be waiting for the same shuttle bus, told her later that they had talked about her as she took the steps two at a time, then ran up the road.
1) They thought she was training for something.
2) They thought she was mad.
Down to the Marina.
Met by Rianna and the crew.
Wished Rianna "Happy Birthday" and gave her the big stuffed Kangaroo toy.
She was really thrilled.
We had emailed as I booked this tour and she said it was the best trip of the year because it was her birthday!
So I couldn't ignore that.
And she really was thrilled with the kangaroo.
She kept showing everyone.
All shoes off and in the basket.
So, barefooted we all went aboard the boat.
We sailed (under engine) to the other side... ( very precise here. Have to look it up)
You just spread your towel on the roof of the cabin which is covered in wonderful vinyl mattresses for great sun baking comfort....and watched the sky and water go by.
We sat next to a lovely young couple from The Netherlands, Kim and Jeff.
We stopped at our first cove.
The colour of the water was beautiful and it was crystal clear!
Emily was first in, me second.
Magnificent.
So that was the way of the day.
A bit of sailing.
Lots of swimming at different coves.
5 stops in all.
Sometimes an hour and a half there.
Sometimes just 30 minutes.
Perfect.
We stopped at a cove with overhanging rocks.
That's where Emily went cliff jumping.
I really couldn't believe it but off she went ... 4 times.
We don't know how high it was.
The man in the photo didn't jump in the end.
He climbed back down.
I didn't blame him.
Only 1 other young girl did it and she was very hesitant.
She did it once.
Emily loved it and there was much cheering and applause from the boat every time she jumped.
I watched rather anxiously from the water below.
Lunch was wonderful on the boat.
We all made our way to the stern, under the canopy.
And the food was set out before us.
Salads, cold meat, chicken.
Lots of drink available.
Ollie was the man looking after us and he was just lovely.
We swam to a beach in one cove, just Kim, Emily and I.
There was a camp ground there and lots of people swimming close to the shore.
Had googles and tried to dive down to look at the fish.
That salty water just kept 'bobbing' you back up to the surface.
We swam at every stop.
Lots of times.
In out.
Sailing back to Port.
I found out we were about 7 miles out
So .... 'Bottle Overboard!"
I was doing it very quietly because I didn't want anyone to stop me.
( The passengers were very relaxed by this stage so only the Captain and First Mate, Ollie to worry about.)
They were in the cabin so quietly, slipping down the side of the hull .... overboard she went.
I watched it bob around in the wake of the boat.
Got that?
I watched my bottle, poppy and message, bob in the wake of the sailboat in the Aegean Sea.
So there you go.
My 'Message in a Bottle' in the Aegean, achieved.
Day ended about 5 pm.
Back to the pool.
We were coated in salt.
Emily had salt on her eyelashes!
To the bar with Kim and Jeff.
They taught us that you must make eye contact when you 'clink' glasses.
A Netherlands tradition!
Shower
Dinner.
I tried the ice cream trick with the dinner plate again.
No chocolate bananas this time.
Had to settle for chocolate cake.
Approached the lovely ice cream man.
He takes my plate...
Comes out from behind his counter ...
and proceeds to choose the desserts I should be having and placing them decoratively on my plate.
And not until that was done to his satisfaction, did he head back and then arrange ice cream on my plate.
Boy, does that man know what he is doing!
Delicious!
Absolutely delicious.
I went back and thanked him later.
He laughed.
Wonderful day.
