I bought a leather jacket.
Yep.
Another one.
I love it.
And this one is lovely.
Shame it is 35 degrees and a bit warm to wear it.
Mind you I have been parading round the air conditioned room wearing it over my bathers!
Quite a sight really.
OK
Abbreviated story of today.
Will have to come back to fill in the gaps.
Day after tomorrow on the bus.
Tour of the ruins of Ephesus.
Brilliant.
Visit to the leather showroom.
Emily and I were models.
We volunteered.
We stole the show.
Well, Emily did.
Me .... everyone knows straight people can't dance.
So I skipped down the runway.
Still not that impressive.
Visit to the Virgin Mary's House.
Story to follow
I loved this.
Beautiful ancient small rock cottage.
Huge old trees.
Up in the mountains.
I did refrain from drinking at the spring though.
Or buying bottles to fill with water.
Swim.
Much chatter.
Dinner.
Bed
It's 10pm
Think you everyone for the comments.
Mum, you are doing a great job with both Emily's and mine.
Different perspective of the same trip!
We love getting your comments!
And we are having a ball!
OK, on the bus Mon 31st August to Pamukkale at 9am.
Very bumpy ride so excuse the writing.
I think Ilban is taking us through the back streets and paddocks!
We arrived at Ephesus early morning about 9am.
Beating the crowds and the heat.
These ruins are spectacular.
Apart from all smaller buildings along the walk, the ruins of fountains, Roman Baths, shops...
There are the remains of the column lined, marble paved road leading to the Library.
I will have to rely on the photos here because it really is a sight!
Tall and so white.
Most of the marble still remains here so everywhere you look is stunning.
And it is a very big site.
We also went into the 'covered' site of the remains of 6 terrace houses.
Now, Emily was very keen to do this part of the site.
She really had to talk me into it as I was worried that we would run out of time to explore the Library.
So glad I did it.
It was amazing.
Mind you we held our breath at the ticket counter waiting to see if they had Efpos.
We had no cash.
None at all.
Heaven only knows how we both ran out at the same time and didn't get more.
Back to the excavated Terrace Houses....
A photo showed the first excavations.
There were men digging on the top of the high hill and parked next to them was an old tractor and trailer.
The thing was that, after excavations, this tractor and trailer would have been sitting 6 storeys up in mid air.
That is how much they found as they kept digging.
This is a wonderful site.
Shows the rooms and mosaics in the tiled floors and walls.
It showed the porticos with huge columns out the front of each house.
There were no windows, so this open air area was very important for the house.
There were also rooms with tables and tables and tables of broken tiles ....
A huge, huge jigsaw to be worked on!
And amazing to see!
Then the Stadium fascinated us.
So huge!
And amazing sunny day to see it all.
And more photos.
Back onto the bus.
Then onto the leather showroom.
Had a great time here, Rossini Leather.
Marvellous runway show
And, of course, Emily and I were models.
You really have to try to picture this.
There I am, backstage, being fitted with a BEAUTIFUL leather jacket, over black leggings and dirty sand shoes, standing, all 5 ft 2 inches of me, surrounded by beautiful girls that were at least 11 feet tall.
I felt like quite an ill dressed dwarf.
However, on to the catwalk.
Emily rocked it!
Her stance of that classic John Travolta pose bought the house down!
I had a go and I had so much fun... They said I could come back!
( Turkish people are so much fun and so very, very polite!)
Then into the shop area.
Emily said the fact that I wore one jacket around the whole shop for the entire time everyone else was looking decreased my bargaining power.
Didn't really care.
I had fun listening to all those Turkish men (salesmen) telling me how good it looked on me.
( Take it where you can, I say.)
So I bought a jacket.
And I LOVE it!
Emily tried but came away empty handed.
I think we had lunch about here as well.
Then the lovely hilly drive up the top of a high hill to The Virgin Mary's House.
The story is that Jesus asked John to look after his mother and they travelled to Ephesus.
Then in the modern day, a woman who had never travelled had some visions of an old house high on a hill and The Virgin Mary. This visions were published and later read by some priests.
These men decided to look for the house.
Looking out the bus window, I was thinking how very hard the trip up the hill would have been, let alone looking for ruins from the 1st Century amongst the growth and Olive trees.
They found some ruins where the visions suggested and these have been dated to the 1st Century.
Of course there were only the basic foundations remaining, but the house has been rebuilt as it perhaps would have been.
A beautiful little stone building surrounded by enormous old trees.
I loved it.
And being too used to modern cons on every corner back home,Emily and I couldn't find an ATM until after our tour of Ephesus.
So, at this lovely place, I bought a necklace and Emily bought a genuine, fake watch.
It was a long day but so much fun.
Back to our MAGNIFICENT view.
Swim.
Bar with lots from the tour.
Much laughter.
Bed
