1. I spent a frantic 5 hours packing, trying to decide what stays in Puente, what comes with me and what goes on the mule. That's three different bags. Tricky!
2. I loaded my stuff on the mule - he's called Gonzalo by the way and says hi - and set off. I'll pick it up at the end of day 2.
3. I welcomed the arrival of the first locals and had me a juicy burger, probably the last one for the next two weeks! In fact I had one to go as well!
4. I checked into the national park and set off on my trail - not a whole lot to do that day. 6 km to cover, ascend from 2,800 to 3,400 m. Didn't even get tired on that one.
5. Checked in, ate the rest of the other burger and took the bed that I had booked for camp 1 (camping gear was in the mule baggage).
6. Was a little shocked when temperature at night dropped to 0C in my big tent. But at least I had an actual bed.
7. Went to pee 3 times that night. That means Diamox is kicking in. And every time I wondered at the sheer quantity of stars that exist above us and we just don't see every day. Marvelous!
