Today we got a flavor of Kolkata from the back alley's. The business we went to rescues women from the sex trade. Their products are sold world wide. They produce carry bags and t-shirts. I was impressed by the organization and dedication of it's founder. He looks just like Mike Divine an associate pastor at SUMC. He is from New Zealand. We spend most of the day with them. Eating lunch in his home which is in the factory. One peculiarity in India is that you must take off your shoes in the work areas and in peoples homes. Now I know why there is a separate faucet for foot washing.
We traveled on the metro to the factory. It is more crowded than any metro I have ever been on. I felt like a sardine in a can. On the way back to BMC we took a motorized rickshaw. Driving here is only for the brave.

Kathie Sounds like you are really seeing things from "street level" - much more educational than as a tourist.
Jim It would seem doing this rescue work is quite dangerous since there must be strong forces against this effort.
