Finally it appears all is well and we can be on our way.
A quick trip into the city via Adelaide's wonderful park and pay tram system from the Entertainment Centre and before we knew it we were back to Newport Motors to hook up the trailer, tuck the car away and thank Craig for his wonderful hospitality over the past month and have a final cuppa with him.
It was mid afternoon, a little later than we expected before we shut the door, honked the horn and hit the A1 headed for...........well we weren't too sure. Nothing unusual about that! We thought we might only get as far as St Kilda but Kimbo was on a mission and wanted to keep going, made easier by daylight saving. It was a perfect travelling day - maximum 32 degrees.
I was amazed at the wind farms that dotted the hilltops between Port Wakefield and Port Pirie. I know we haven't been up this way for a long time, but I'm sure I haven't seen them before. Everything else was as I remembered it.
Stopped in Port Augusta for fuel, probably the last time we'll be able to use Coles fuel vouchers for a while.
By 6.30pm he'd had enough and we pulled into "The Tanks" Rest Area at Lincoln Gap which also abuts the Cultana Army Training Reserve - hope there's no activity this evening!
We were very excited to have our first night on the road for such a long time but the flies were in plague proportion so it made it impossible to stay outside.
Being always prepared I whipped up an amazing dinner inside at least we didn't have to rely on having a BBQ!
Once the flies went to bed, the bugs decided to wake up and join us even though they weren't invited.
So we got the message and revelled in the fact that we were back in the great outdoors!!
Even though we were right next to the busy A1 (National Highway # 1) where the trucks thunder east and west all night, I thought it may be challenging to sleep, but as it was warm over night I had the fan on and ear plugs in so I had a relatively good night's sleep which is always a bonus.
Excited we are!
