We set the alarm again so that we'd be up bright and early for our take 2 venture to the Gawler Ranges about 350km north. It was a fine beautiful day and excellent for travelling.
The fan belt was fine and we arrived in Wudinna about 10.00am and picked up a map and some info on what to do. First we sent to Mt Wudinna which is the second biggest monolith in the southern hemisphere............I didn't know that. We walked up to the top and we could see turtle rock so much better than from the ground. We stopped at a few other rock formations and then drove to Minnipa and went to Tcharkulada Rock.
At last it was time to hit the road to Mt Ive, about 90km from Minnipa over some very bloody bad dirt and gravel road. Our first stop was Pildappa Hill and then at a waterfall the man in Wudinna told us about - sadly it had no water running and it doesn't have a name so I've decided to call it "Kianne". The jewel in the crown for me was seeing some Sturt desert pea still blooming - my first ever sighting.
We arrived at Mt Ive about 5.00pm and while we were checking in to our spot the rear door or the oke blow down and smashed the glass - I couldn't believe it. What on earth have we done....there's been nothing but trouble with this damn car. Anyhow nothing we can do about it out here.
Mt Ive is a huge station and we're staying behind the shearing quarters in our tent (10 rooms; 4 beds to a room) and using their facilities. They're really organised out here with a shop and everything! We paid $5.00 for a key to get into Lake Gairdner and also to see the wombat holes. After pitching the tent we went over to see the holes (amazing holes) in our very dusty moke. I hope we can do something about the window tomorrow. We cooked our bbq dinner in the kitchen and went to bed not long after it was dark. I slept really badly and the rain didn't help - the last thing I expected here was rain! So instead of having red dust over the tent we had red mud!
Wednesday and it appears we're going to be dished up rainy, overcast and cool conditions, doesn't matter we're out here and anything goes.
