today we woke up early and got to see the sunrise and uluru change colors. it was freezing cold and most people didn't even bother getting off the bus but c'mon, i didn't come all this way to just sit on a bus and see this thing from a distance. i can't believe how much the colors change so quickly. there is a reason why people come from all around the world just to see this. amazing.
after sunrise, we walked around the base of uluru which took about two hours to complete. usually, you are able to climb uluru but because it was closed because it was so windy. the aboriginal people believe that uluru is sacred and don't like it when tourists climb it so i wonder if i would've climbed it if it were open. sort of torn between respecting their wishes and feeling like i'm obliged to do it since it was my only opportunity to do it. oh well, i guess nature made my decision for me. the hike was beautiful anyways, the rock seemed to change with every step and i couldn't stop taking pictures of all the natural forms of red mass. i accidentally took a picture of a sacred part that you weren't allowed to take pictures of...ooops, but it was so cool that i didn't delete it off my camera which is what i probably should've done. i wonder if that is why my bag has not been found. rumor has it that if you do wrong to uluru you get bad luck. and trust me, i feel like i've had my streak of bad luck with this trip. yikes.
