Whoever said detoxes were a good idea anyway?!
Having arrived in Chiang Mai with nothing but good intentions, the next 7 days were a blur of water, fun and alcohol.
Songkran, the Thai New Year is a celebration that is supposed to run April 13th through 15th. So you can imagine my shock when I walked out on the 11th to 7 eleven and came back drenched. Purchasing a plastic wallet and a water gun, myself and dorm mate Rachel headed out to join them. And that was the start of 5 days of madness. Those guys that initially attacked me on the 11th, Adam, Blake and B (for those that have known me a while, yes that became very confusing) were now our team mates and after each day of water fighting at Roo Bar, we fell into a routine of beer pong at Playhouse and then Zoe in Yellow. Before waking up the next day and doing it all over again.
It was amazing, quite easily one of the highlights of my trip so far and although I had to scrap my plans of heading back to Bangkok for the celebration I had a blast. One of my favourite things about it is that it's not a festival or celebration that has been taken over by westerners and tourists, though they play a massive part of it, it's so awesome to see the Thai people being just as involved!
The 5 days I spent in Chiang Mai with these guys they then invited me with them to Pai. Mum, you may want to bare in mind that I was in no way injured or hurt before you start reading the next entry... I promise I'm being safe.
