Having problems loading photos whch is a real shame as we have some great ones from Igazcu Falls plus yesterday we decided at the last minute we had to go to Punto Norte at the top of Peninsula Valdes to try and see the Orcas. We arrived about 45 minutes after high tide and then the show started. We hoped to see some from a distance as we expected them to be a few hundred metres away at best but the big male, called Mel, and his lady, called Sol, was already hunting and he beached several time right in front of us - amazing spectacle, just like the Trials of Life with David Attenborough only happening 50m away from us. Got some great pictures and videos which we´ll try and upload when we get to the right PC! We were sooooo lucky as people had been going there for days and not seen anything at all. While we were there - couple of hours they must have beached 10 times and taken 8 sea lion pups. We then went back to Estancia Rincon Chico where we were staying and had a private tour of their beach to see the elephant seals really close up. The place is fantastic with 4000 merino wool sheep being farmed and loads of wild animals, and we were the only guests for the first night. Jane loved it as they have university reseachers from the US and Argentina monitoring and tagging the colonies of sea Lion and elephant seals (in high season). Maybe she will organise a trip with the 6th form! We saw, foxes, Armadillos (hairy and non hairy), Guanaco, hares, many falcons and owls, and a few sheep. The owner, Augustin, has his own airplane and given the distances it makes sense as it is 76Km from the nearest village (300 people) and 150Km from the nearest town.
We were up at 4.00 this morning to get to the airport for 8.00 am flight to El Calefate which is not too far from the tip of South America. Wonderful flight with stunning views of the Andes and South Atlantic coast. Argentina is full of great places so plan a visit now!!! The sun is shining and it is in the 20´s C when we expected it tobe cold and very windy. Off for a 4 x 4 trip in a minute and tomorrow off to see the Glaciers and do some horse riding. We´ll be saddle sore next time we write.
Keep writing and we´ll try and get some photos loaded. B & J x
