So I've had an amazing couple of days here and thought it was time for an update. Really getting into the teaching and figuring out what works and what doesn't. My favourite class so far was working with the youngest class from pretty much the very beginning with ABC, and playing a game with the so they remember 3 simple words beginning with A and B. We've gone out for a drink or a bit of a mosey around most nights I've been here (one time we went to a Theme Park with the WORST safety standards I have ever seen!) but Friday was my first 'big' night out. We headed out just for a meal in town to say goodbye to a couple of people, but the power in the restaurant was out, so it was baking. We wanted to cool down so we found a bar with air con and beer... then thought it would be good to find another bar... then to find a club... then another... and eventually fell into bed at 4am! It was good fun.
Yesterday was a lovely day - I'd heard there was an olympic pool in Phnom Penh and wanted to check it out. There were a couple of others who wanted to come along so the 4 of us headed off. After taking a wrong turn and clambering over fields and fences we eventually made it. It was so nice to get in a pool and cool down - it was 50m, but all a bit run down. After doing some lengths and having a race with a couple of Cambodians (!) we all headed to the diving pit. We've got some great photos of mucking around and jumping off the 10m and 5m board, although not on my camera, so they'll be on Facebook soon. It was great fun, and will probably become a regular! We checked out the night market here in the evening.
Going to go no, but I'll do an update in a bit about 'embracing their lifestyle' etc, and maybe a rough 'daily routine' type thing! I'm hoping to borrow someone's computer soon to upload some of my photos, which would be good. Just planned a trip down to Sihanoukville on the coast over the weekend, for a bit of relaxation and beaching, so looking forward to that! Goodbye for now...
