What a couple of days! Had my first afternoon at the school on Tuesday, which was incredible. It feels like the first couple of days where you aren't teaching feels like a waiting game, and the nerves build up a bit, but it was so nice to finally get to the school. Those kids are so full of energy! They are all so happy, and were literally ecstatic when I came in. They constantly walk up and say 'hello how are you.' and the call me 'cha', short for 'teacher'. They can't get their heads around 'Bruno'! It was great fun teaching them, although pretty basic. They love playing games, especially bingo (B! I! N! G! O!) And word bingo, and ive got lots of other games lined up to play with them. My first lesson I had a cambodian assistant, but was left alone for the second. They do have a syllabus and book to follow though, which is good.
I've had a couple of days at the school now, and I'm really enjoying it. I've got a nice range which is good - some are literally just learning their ABC, some are on to learning short words and phrases, and then there's an older age group, 18-24ish, and I'm really glad I get to work with them. It's called a 'life skills lesson' - they take lessons in English, using computers, getting a job etc for 6 months at the school, then they are sent to a big hotel here called the Intercontinental for 6 months, at the end of which some will get a job. It feels like a really good cause, you can have a good joke with them, and it's nice having a group who can understand a little more when you are trying to explain! Phrases and words like pasta are the most tricky, because they just have no consciousness of their existence - we've settled on 'Italian Noodle'!
And of course the best news from back home is that after a long, long wait I've been accepted to Warwick, my top choice, which is so exciting. It all feels a little unreal out here though, and the idea of 'uni' hasn't really sunken in yet!
Still settling in but definitely getting there. At the moment I'm finding the mornings most difficult - I think it's waking up straight into the heat and then getting up and going straight into work. You feel like you are falling asleep, but after a sleep at lunch I wake up and feel completely different, much more energised, which is lovely. So I'm hoping I can acclimatise myself to the morning routine soon!
That's all for now!

But congratulations Bruno, you really really REALLY deserved it!
