This morning we slept in until 9. After a leisurely prep for the day we decided we would go out in search of a thrift shop that the hostel had advertised. Since Paris maps are useless, we gave up that idea and decided a free form day was the way for us. We retraced out steps from the day before to the Tuileries, picking up a panini on the way. We ate our paninis sitting in reclined chairs by the main fountain in the gardens. The sun kept going behind large clouds, and after a while we needed to start moving around. We walked down the street leading to the Arc of Triumph past tons of stores. After the arc we continued to our one intended event of the day: the Eiffel Tower. The lines at the bottom we short, and in no time we climbed the steps reach 2/3 of the way up the tower. At this point only elevators are available to reach the top. The views were awesome. We did not realize how far we had been walking until we saw the city from the top of the tower. There was only one throw up mess that we saw at the top, otherwise a pretty clean visit. The lines for the elevators were the ones that took forever. By the time we got done we had become quite hungry, and after scouring the neighborhood, say down at a cafe near the tower. Kayla and I shared a chicken wing and fries for 15.50 euro, almost $21.00 U.S. - Paris is so expensive. After dinner we walked to a nearby market and bought chocolates to eat while we waiting for it to get dark so we could see the Eiffel lit up. There are gardens leading out from the tower where we found a spot to camp out in. We ate chocolates, took pictures, and watched guys selling wine and champagne to the picnickers pull their supplies out of topiaries. It got dark, the lights came on, and Kayla and I found it to be very romantic. We took some videos and hit the road because by the time it got dark enough for the lights it was 10:30. We walked back to St. Michel-long walk- but it was nice out and cool to see that part of Paris at night. Parties were happening on house boats, bands were playing along the river and in bars, and people were out everywhere. After prepping to leave for Barcelona, Kayla and I crashed.
