Toad River, British Columbia to Dawson Creek - 400 miles
65 & Overcast
Days 87 & 88
Today we travel to mile Zero of the Alaskan Highway, Dawson Creek. The Blue Beast would have to work hard today we have to cross many high peaks including Stone Mountain and Steamboat Mountain Summit.T he driving is a challenge for Hugh, and frightful for me. I must admit that I'm becoming a little acclimatized. I can open my eyes when we travel these roads now!
The road continues to improve and at some points, not many, there are four lanes today. We cross the ½ mile long Peace River Bridge and I know we have just one more obstacle between us, and mile Zero of the Alaskan Highway. Ahead of us lay the Kiskatinaw River Bridge, with its gorge and river below. The winds on the bridge are very strong. The views of the steep cliffs, with their beautiful colorful rock, and the river far below are stupendous. We arrived in Dawson Creek about 5:00pm and gave the Blue Beast a quick RV wash. The mud was caked on 2" thick in some places.
We noticed a haze in the air as we arrived at the Northern Lights RV Park. We set up, sat down, and watched the haze in the air create a wonderful orange sunset in the western sky.
It was beautiful!

Mickey Dianis So impressed with your trip. Barb, you are becoming braver as the trip goes on. As I read your comments I think of Paul's grandparents. They made this trip back in the '50s, in a car, when the road wasn't completely paved. I never thought of them as rugged, but I guess they were troopers when they were a bit younger. I didn't meet them till the mid 60s.
