So today was awesome! Many fun stories…where do I start? You will have to forgive me if I seem spacey…I'm currently drinking a screw driver made by the best Greek bartender ever….Jeanette
So today we went exploring. Like HARD CORE exploring. We first stopped at a museum that showed us how Greek Olive Oil was produced…it was interesting to see how it all worked. The country really lived off of the profits from Olive Oil. After that we went to a Monastery. Funny thing is…I wasn't allowed in. haha I was wearing shorts and you cant show your legs when you go inside! Leave it to me to be THAT girl. But I snuck in among the group and got some really cool pictures…which I'm pretty sure is also forbidden. whoops!
After that we went to a city on a different part of the island. It was SO curvy and steep I seriously thought our big giant tour bus was going to fall right off the mountain. The guard rail was so short I just kept imagining us toppling over it and it acting as a "jump" to aid us on our way down. LOL But seriously…it was very scary. Luckily we had a very professional bus driver who seemed to have done that a few times. Well then we got to an extremely steep part of the mountain…and the bus had to go in REVERSE! talk about having almost having a heart attack. Oh, and on top of it all the bus driver had to honk the horn around every single corner to make sure he didn't run any little cars off the road. At least the view was beautiful! Even if we did get car sick.
After that we went to a different town where we got to shop. I bought the CUTEST little Greek dress that I will cherish forever. And it was only fourteen euro. Well then we all (as in the 23 of us) walked by this bench full of old men. One of them smiled at me and said…"ahhh Ladies from Spain?" and I said "Umm..noo Americano." So I guess we all look Spanish! It was cute though.
I have also learned some greek words. Kalimera means good morning, and Efcharisto means Thank you! We say them a lot….as to not seem "touristy." But I'm pretty sure it just assures people that we are for sure foreigners.
Well later in the day we stopped at a church. It was probably beautiful and magnificent….but I wouldn't know because I once again was not allowed in. I will be sure not to wear shorts on our next excursion! None of these Greek people appreciate me showing my bare legs. J
Well I am going to go socialize….oh and by the way I got my first hint of a tan….you all know I'm loving that!
Until then,
Brette
