So yesterday and today were full of adventure. We went on a 3 hour hike which was awesome. We got to see a lot of old archeological buildings and remains….very cool! We also learned that in Greece that after you die you are only in the tombstone for 3 years…then they take you out…clean your bones with wine and pack you in a box to be stored somewhere! Like WOAH culture shock when hearing that!! Our tour guide, Yani, (who is also the hotel owner) is sooo hilarious! He told us how he went to get the bones of a deceased family member…only to see that there was still flesh!! EW. He said it was quite an experience.
We then went to a village on the island where we had an amazing dinner. In Greece they don't eat dinner til about 8pm…so of course by that time all of these young American girls were STARVING. We had a five course meal with all kinds of food. Octopus…Fried Cheese…Lamb…Grape Leaves…everything was so good! I even tried the Octopus…which for those who know me, this is a BIG accomplishment! The Mayor of the town came to welcome us…talk about VIP!
Well last night my roommate Erin and I had a very interesting conversation. Basically we were tired enough where we were completely slap happy! I have no idea what was wrong with us but every time we got quiet and tried to sleep we went into hysterical laughter. Then I saw a HUGE bug run across my bed! Naturally I freaked out….but erin didn't believe me that there was a bug. I ended up naming him Herbert because somehow by giving him a name he seemed less threatening! All of a sudden I hear Erin scream….Herbert finally proved that I wasn't crazy as he ran across the wall. Erin squished him with a shoe and we finally went to sleep around 2am lol.
Today was really cool. We went to a museum and learned about Greek Mythology and old ruins that were found throughout the island. We got to tour a castle (which Im uploading pictures of!) The view was amazing…I felt like I was staring at a post card or something! Well, when we were walking through the castle we saw two wild donkeys…who were TOTALLY DOING IT!!! Yes. I can now say I saw donkeys have sex while in Greece!! A couple of the girls got a snapshot…I tried of course but didn't quite get it.
OH! I also had my first Greek beer today…WAY better than American Beer J and cheap too!!!
Well this wasn't the most interesting update….but it will do for now.
Until Then,
