Reached the western end of Gibb River Road today ... I wonder, is it the longest ‘road’ in Australia? I know that there are plenty of ‘highways’ that are longer, but maybe not ‘roads’.
Enjoyed fresh rolls and salad and cold juice for lunch, then went to Woolies to buy food.
After that, Jesse and I went out for a drive onto the mud flats which surround the town. He got a real buzz out of steering the car, making it go wherever he wanted.
Just before sunset we headed up to the jetty. Plenty of people were there: tourists with cameras, wine and cheese; and locals with crab nets. The jetty is unusual partly because it is shaped like a semicircle, it meets the land at both ends, so you can drive (or walk) on at one end and off at the other. Anyway, the long piers and low tide combine with the setting sun to provide a picturesque and perhaps even romantic scene.
Pizza and salad for tea, yum. And phone service, yay!
