Venice
This morning we slept in until 9:30 and rushed down to breakfast (it finished at 10). Breakfast was very basic but did the job. Venice is nearly double the price to do anything and everything from activities to eating so after spending nearly $100 EURO yesterday on food we wanted to try and eat one meal, a late lunch and early dinner. Which we did successfully!
After breakfast we went to organise something to do for the day, a tour was available for the afternoon to go to the different islands, Murano, Burano and Torcello, and that costed $20 EURO each so we booked that in. Being in Venice there was one thing we did want to do before we did that tour and that was go on a Gondola ride. It cost $150 EURO to go on the gondola but it was well worth it. Our gondolier was also a tour guide (but told us his second job was a photographer for pornography!) He told us all about the history of Venice and showed us where all the famous people lived around Venice. We didn't just go in the little cannels but all around Venice. To top it off he took pictures for us and also sung!
The tour this afternoon started at 2pm and we met on the main street just out the front of our hotel. Our first stop was at Murano where we 40 minutes to walk around a glass-blowing factory and get a live demonstration of how they do it. WOW! They are so clever and have to work fast with the glass before it goes hard. Second stop was Burano here we saw women weaving lace, as we pulled up though the houses are all different colours!! Apparently it is a fishing village and they are the fisherman's houses. Our final stop for the day was at Torcello, Torcello is famous for being the first place of civilisation and the cathedral still stands to represent this.
All in all a very good day and the weather was magnificent! We couldn't have asked for a better day in Venice.
Sweet dreams,
Bree and Trav
