Sorry I've been lazy with my blog everyone!Ireland was a couple weekends ago, but here's what went down:
Traveling was absolute hell, but everything in between was fantastic.A series of events led us to missing our flight out, and therefore paying a 50 pound ($100) fee to fly out the next morning.Being that we were miles and miles from our dorm, and the buses stopped running, we tried to sleep in the airport.Well, the girls did…I couldn't sleep so I walked around the terminal most of the night.I found a tiny casino, where I played video poker and won about 5 pounds! Then I blew it all on a beer.So that was my night.
We made it in the next morning, and arrived at our hostel. It was quite the place… our room was a communal:one big room, with about 13 sets of bunk beds!Needless to say, I took my belongings with me.We went to the Guinness factory the first day, which was a good time.We got a free pint at the end, and it was mighty tasty.A totally different drink from the states or even London. We then went to have a pint at the Brazenhead, which was the oldest pub in Ireland. That night, Aaron and I signed up for a guide to take us around on a pub crawl. We avoided all the tourist traps, and went to some real local Irish pubs.
The next day, I'm woken up by Maura, who tells me that her Irish cousins are coming to Dublin to watch the All Ireland football match and that we should go hang out with them.On top of that, she told me that they had AN EXTRA TICKET for the event, and that her and I were actually going to the match. If you've never heard of Gaelic Football, it's a mix between soccer and rugby…hard to explain.Youtube it or something…ANYWHO this was the super bowl of this sport… it was Kerry v. Cork, and Maura's cousin used to play for Kerry, so that's who we were rooting for. When I went into the stadium I realized how lucky I was… this place was huge, and the match was sold out.The other great thing about it was that Maura and I were probably the only Americans in the stadium. There were flags waving, people screaming, fights on the field… fun for everyone. To be honest, I'll never forget it.We ran onto the field after it was over, because Kerry won, and watched them receive their trophy. That night, Maura's cousins were so happy about the win, that they bought me cider alllllll niiiiight.I talked to her one cousin Mike most of the night.Nicest guy I ever met.I loved the people in Ireland, and Mike just summed them all up.Although I could only understand half of what the guy said, we BS'd all night long.
That would've been a great end to a great weekend, huh?Well at about 4:45 the next morning (which came about two hours after my 11th cider), we arrived at the airport to depart for London.Although I just don't like to talk about it… my flight itinerary was wrong.I'm just a complete an udder moron, I know.It said I was departing Sunday morning, not Monday morning.I was screwed.I had to buy a whole new flight out.I could hop onto the flight my friends would be on… but that would've cost me over 250 euros.I said heck with that, what do you have for tomorrow? So I spent an extra 110 euros on a flight to London on TUESDAY.So goodbye friends, get on your flight, Brandon's just gonna sleep underneath the escalator to get away from the intense light in the airport. And that's what I did.I woke up four hours later… still sleep deprived… and unfortunately, feeling the effects of a gallon and a half of Bulmer's cider.I wondered around Dublin airport, realizing that I have a day and a half until I get to go back to London.I then realized that if I stayed there to save money, then I would go absolutely crazy. So I went to travel information, booked a Dublin bus tour, and hopped back on a shuttle to downtown Dublin.I actually managed to have a good time!I took my tour, booked a night at the hostel, and stumbled upon some free comedy club tickets.I caught up on rest and made it to the airport the next day.
Whew! One of the best and worst weekends of my entire life.I just can't wait to go back.
