Brenton Kovacs's Travels
From today i am travelling by car, driving around the coast of Ireland. My accommodation for the next 2 weeks is my newly purchased tent, sleeping bag, air mattress, pillow. So i bid farewell to Bob, who i can tell is going to miss me (i have just read the review of me he posted on airbnb, and this confirms it)
The hire car place is about 3k walk and as its such a lovely day i am in no hurry to get there, especially now that i have added 6kg of luggage to carry. The car they have given me is a nice new Opel Corsa. Nice little 4 cylinder petrol engine so it should be frugal on gas.
My first stop is Powerscourt House, about 25ks south of Dublin. Its nice but the entrance fee is way to dear for me, so i just explore the surrounding gardens.
Next stop is Sally Gap in the Wicklow mountains. Some very nice scenery along the way. What i am having trouble with is the very narrow lanes, not roads, lanes. They are about 1.5 cars wide, so meeting oncoming traffic is interesting.
I pass through many old villages on the way to my final destination for the day, Kilkenny. The camp ground is nice and it only takes me about 10 minutes to pitch the tent. Now its a long walk into the old Medieval town of Kilkenny. Its a nice little village with a 120 foot tall tower that was built over 1,000 years ago, and you can still climb to the top. Plenty of other sights to see, but as i am walking it starts to lightly rain. Oh well cant have clear days every day. The Kilkenny Castle is nice but was closing when i arrived, so i was left to visit the rose garden. The garden smelt amazing with all the roses in full bloom.
I return back to the camp site and its not long before i am talking to an elderly Swiss couple who are having computer troubles. So i fix it for her and she rewards me with some very nice swiss chocolate, and an invitation to visit them if i am ever in Bern, Switzerland. Might have to take them up on the offer.
