Crowded train to baseball game Boston red sox vs Toronto blue jays. This is a BIG day for Americans as it is their Day of Independence and everyone wants to go to this game. The stadium was full and the atmosphere was terrific. Before the game started, there was a military band that played their national anthem and other songs. They also acknowledged their soldiers currently fighting in Afghanistan and soldiers on leave at the game. Some jet fighters flew over the stadium with a tremendous noise. The Americans are very patriotic and there was lots of emotion. Unfortunately at the end of the day the Red Socks lost with a close score. Bit of an anti-climax as everyone just got up and left with no cheering or clapping. The crowd leaving was huge so we decided to walk back to our hotel, about half hour, rather than take the subway.
That evening we walked the short distance to the edge of the Charlestown River for the Independence Day fireworks show. The crowd was massive, estimated between 700,000 and one million. People travel from all over the US to be in Boston for the Independence Day weekend as it is the where the revolution began. The fireworks were amazing. Very late arriving back at the hotel.
