This is carrying on from the last blog:
Day 5: Did a long drive today from Queenstown up the West coast to Fox Glacier. It was a really pretty drive through the mountains, which also unfortunately meant the road was pretty gnarly - especially the 'shortcut' we took to Wanaka throught he crown range - so we took it very slowly and stopped off at several places for refreshments. We stopped in Wanaka for fuel and to see if they were showing Harry Potter, but the crazy locals tried to make me watch a film about an autistic man so we left rather quickly!
Also stopped in Haast Village for coffee and wedges, and I have to tell you the wedge story! So, me and Tom are driving along, singing to Johnny Cash, when Tom suddenly makes a face and says "can u smell manure?" i said no, and he went on to say "in that case, that chip tasted of poo"
It might not seem funny to you but we laughed so much we nearly went off the road! We got to Fox Glacier village late afternoon, and booked ourselves onto the half day hike up the glacier for tomorrow. Went and had some really nice pumpkin soup in the bar whos carpark we camped in overnight!
Day 6: We got up nice and early and went and checked in for our hike. The first n90 minutes or so was hiking through the bush up the side of the valley to get to the ice - some great views! Then when we got to the ice and strapped on our crampons and tucked in our socks....nice look! We spent about an hour on the ice walking around and crawling though tunnels etc, then it was back down the valley. That afternoon me and Tom drive along to Franz Josef and had a wander round the village and the glacier then back to Fox. We also went and had a look at Lake Matheson but we underestimated the walk and it was dark by the time we got to the jetty!
Day 7: Did a skydive! It was a scenic flight as well, going right up the glaciers and circling Mount Cook and Mount Tasman - incredible views! Jumped at 12000ft - it was the coldest I think I've ever been, but the views made it all worthwhile! After that we jumped in Delilah and headed off up the coast. We drove all day taking it in turns and made it back to BLENHEIM that evening to surprise the others! Had a nice evening catching up, showing them the bungy dvd etc!
Since then we spent monday and tuesday in Blenheim, catching up with people, watching Harry Potter and chilling out. At the moment I'm in Christchurch with Cody trying to sell their car Mavis - fingers crossed!
