Cant remember what day I'm supposed to be on:
Well, we managed to kinda sell Mavis, the guy they bought her off is selling her on their behalf so thats better than nothing! We mooched around Christchurch then got the bus back to Blenheim that evening and packed up to go.
Next day we left Blenheim FOR GOOD!!! and drove up to Picton to get the ferry. We were going to try and get away with the most complex hustle yet - getting 4 of us in the van on the ferry and paying for 2 people, but we decided against it at the last minute, thinking that if the people hiding in the back of the van were unable to get out unseen they would have a very uncomfortable 3 hours! Its supposed to be the roughest ferry crossing in the world, thankfully though it wasnt that bad. We whiled away the time drinking chai latte and reading gossip magazines (and that was just the boys) and eventually got off the ferry in Wellington. We first of all headed for food, had a really good curry then went to the cinema to see Knocked Up which is sooooo funny if you havnt seen it already then go see it!!! We decided to try and fit all of us sleeping in the back of the van that night, and parked up just off the highway. We had a few unwelcome visitors stopping to see if anything interesting was going on, but eventually we all got to sleep - a bit. Four people in a small nissan van is not that comfy!!
The next day we set off for Taupo. We drove pretty much straight through the day but stopped at a few places to refresh and stretch, and drove through Mordor! Unfortunately it was really cloudy and yukky so we couldn't see Mount Doom but we saw pics of it later, its pretty awesome! On getting to Taupo we checked into the YHA then headed out for some dinner at Hell, a gourmet pizza place...mmm! We ate in the YHA kitchen with a box of really bad goon and then went to a pub called The Shed to watch the rugby, Wallabies vs All Blacks - AB's won of course, which made for a great atmosphere! they had slushy machines but for cocktail so they wer only like $4! Yay!
The next day we left earlyish and went to the Warehouse (big niknak store) and i bought HARRY POTTER! yay! tom drove all the way to Rotorua while i read in the back of the van! We stopped at some thermal springs which smelt of poo so we didnt spend long there! also took a look at a big dam and the Huka Falls, which were pretty cool. We made it back to Auckland that night and saw Eddie!! checked back into Queens Street Backpackers and chilled out for the night.
Next day we had a leisurely morning then got in the van and off to Raglan, a small seaside surfer town where the film Endless Summer was filmed, it was a nice town but not much to do in the winter so we headed further down the coast to Kawhia, which (the lonely planet says) is home to a beach where you can dig a hole in the sand and it fills with hot water! We thought this would be nice and drove 30km down a dirt track only to find a windswept beach with black sand that has no hot water holes. i fell on my bum down a sanddune! we then drove back up to auckland, only stopping for dominos. we were all pretty cream crackered so straight to bed!
