Greetings fom Sabah.
We are back in Kota Kinabalu after visiting a group of islands called Mantanani for the last 3 days. We stayed in simple huts on wooden stilts poised above a pristine coral reef a hundred meters from an sland that looked like the one they filmed the ad for bounty bars or Lilt, on. The huts were pretty basic - no air con or fridges, just a bed to sleep in and a view to die for. We made it through our time there without dying once. I had to make a short film on a turtle expert there who has one of the coolest jobs in the world. He anchors in the lagoon in a beautiful boat where he lives with his wife and three daughters, and carries out his turtle research. His family help him, going off every day to chase after turtles in a boat with with his two eldest daughters diving off wearing wet suits ( turtles don't go a bundle getting caught, they bite ) Jac and the kids got to hold a turtle and Django got to drive a speedboat with the two turtle catching daughters standing beside him in their wet suits. he looked like he was in Bond movie. actually one of dive centre guys that ran the boat out to the islands really was the splitting image of Oddjob. I kept expecting him to throw a steel rimmed bowler hat at me. Pieman and Clare are perfect hosts and after what was hopefully a successful shoot, we arrived back at their place in Kk and went for a swim in their pool. Actually I must sign off now as we have a taxi arriving at 6am to take us to the airport as we are off to Semporna to go out to Sipadan tomorrow, rumoured to be one of the best dive sites in the world and meeting up with Paul Fordham, a mate from Bristol who is on his way back from Bali and unable to resist the appeal of diving at Sipadan, one of Cousteau's fav dive sites. Love to you all back in Blighty, will talk soon from Seaventures, a converted oil rig towed to it's site nr. Sipadan assuming they have wifi. Cheers Y'all
