This morning we had the slightly odd pancakes for breakfast again, I also tried some lovely stale cereal with warm soya milk, mmm. This morning one of the girls from the other school had quite a swollen eye so Amy had to stay behind with her while we all got onto the bus to head to Mantanani Island. It's quite a long journey so halfway we stop at Borneo's version of a service station. We buy crisps etc, they are like huge prawn crackers and quite fishy, a few people stock up on pop etc.
Well on the journey we were called to say that the weather was too bad to go to Mantanani that day so instead of going back to Kota Kinabalu we were going to a camp called Tinangol.
When we arrive we are greeted by the camp manager Kenny and his assistant Derek, there alre also two camps volunteers here called Georgia and Jess, we are staying in traditional long houses, as Amy is still in Kota Kinabalu I have my very own room! It has a slightly raised floor where my bed is, which is a mattress on the floor. Sabrina has her own little hut near the main eating area. There are some huge black wasps in our hut, they are noisy and fumble about like bumble bees which sends everyone running, apparently they don't sting, which is good.
There are a lot of wild dogs around this camp, one has a really sore foot and I feel quite sorry for him.
Some women visit us from the village to show us how to make beaded bracelets, they make it look very easy and fast, it takes us a long time to make something that kind of passes as a bracelet.
For tea we had battered white fish which was really nice, in the evening we had a big game of capture the flag with the camp assistants. My bed is surprisingly comfy.
