Another day in the Western desert and I love it!
This morning I got myself up early to watch the sunrise over the oasis and read my book. So relaxing. I can honestly say that this must be one of the most picturesque places on earth.
After breakfast we went to these old ruins in Dakhala that was an Islamic town from the 11th century through until only about 25 years ago. Really beautiful.
After the ruins it was more off road driving in the jeeps, and more sand dunes... So much fun! Our Bedouin guides are just the nicest and funniest people. We then stopped on one really big sand dune and got out the sleds for some boarding. A lot of fun but I can now barely walk from the climb back up the dunes. That wore us out pretty well so we went to another natural hot spring for a swim. This one was so strange! All the water bubbled and the sand at the bottom was quick sand... You couldn't stand on it, you just had to keep swimming around.
Then it was late lunch back at the Bedouin camp, followed by a couple of hours riding camels through the desert. My camel was this gorgeous old female who just had a mind of her own... She kept walking off and doing her own thing and really quite annoying the owners... she was really quite cute. The camels were part of a herd of about 30 camels. During the ride the whole herd just walked around together, so you kept brushing up and bumping into all the other camels, then some of the other camels were licking my legs... Bit gross!
Tonight more Bedouin food and entertainment. Staying in the mud huts again. Have had a great day and am completely exhausted.
Love to all, Bon.
