Today it was up early to watch the sunrise over the desert. Beautiful. Breakfast at camp and then a walk through the white desert. Met up with the jeeps and continued driving onto the oasis town of Farafra. On the way we stopped and swam at a natural hot spring. The Bedouin men brought us all mint tea while we were floating in the spring, and I have to say it was pretty relaxing!
Farafra is a very small town. We stopped at a local artist's house to look at his work. Very beautiful, I bought a stone carving. While we were there our Bedouin guides played dominoes and were so animated as they tried to cheat and beat each other.
One of our guides lives with his family just outside Farafra and so we stopped at his house for lunch with his family. Lovely. Kids everywhere, all very cute.
This afternoon it was offroad driving over sand and sand dunes. A lot of fun. So many camels and donkeys out here. It's so remote, and the animals are still the primary means of working the land. Amazing.
Arrived in Dakhala before sunset. Staying withe the Bedouins here in the cutest little mud hut. Actually looks like I'm on Tattooine from Star Wars. Tonight it was Bedouin food, camp fire with the locals, music, and then... Wait for it... Belly dancing. All I can say is that there is no junk in my trunk, no groove to my moves... I am no shakira or beyonce. I had a great time and danced with all the guys, but I'm thinking there's some crucial path between my hips and brain that must have been traded in... maybe for chocolate or booze.
Love to all, and I hope you are all fairing well in the rain and floods.
