Today I had a lazy start and left Larnaka mid morning. Drove South to Limassol which is a beachside town a bit larger than Larnaka. Population about 150 000.
I'm staying at a hostel right in the centre of town, one street back from the water. The hostel is basic, but all I need. The owner is this tiny old man who got so excited when I said I was from Aus. He showed me all the rooms and let me have my pick... I confess I was quite nervous when he did this though... I wasn't sure if he was going to make it all the way up the stairs! Anyway, it wasn't until later this afternoon that I noticed all of these old photos stuck on the walls everywhere. It's the old owner in his prime backpacking in outback Australia. What a coincidence!
This afternoon I had lunch at yet another ocean front cafe. Then took a stroll along the waterfront. Unfortunately there's not much else to be done here at the moment as nothing is open on the weekend. Relaxing arvo though.
Tonight I'm having a nice evening by myself. Currently at a local restaurant with a glass of local red wine and a traditional Cypriot meal of beef stifado- which is beef and onion stewed in red wine served with rice. Very tasty. I feel like a large portion of my holiday is me trying to eat my way through as many local dishes as possible! Fun though.
There is a game of soccer on tonight between two Cypriot teams. All the locals have filled the bars and cafes to watch it. I think the local side must have just scored a goal because there is an eight year old boy running around the street outside the restaurant screaming. Glad he has a passion in life at such an early age:)
Love to all!
Ps- grandad please tell dear Marcos where to come and find me! The island is not that big, right?
Pps- uploaded a stack more Egypt photos today.
