More of an adventurous day than yesterday! We got up early and decided to skip paying the £7 for a tour and go it alone. Our mission today… To visit to Cu Chi Tunnels.
We thought these were about 30km away, this was wrong,
He set off just after 7am to try and beat all the tours! ;-) On our little bike we were set & it wasn't raining yay!
The satnav said it should take about an hour to get there so happy days, this however was a big fat lie. 2 1/2 hours later we finally arrived, heres the story.
We made it into the town 'Cu Chi' without any problems what so ever! Apart from the roads being absolutely mental but i think James is about used to that now, i however am not! When we were close to the satnavs destination we noticed a sign for the Cu Chi Tunnels, it said left for 12km which was the opposite way to the satnav so we decided to follow the tourist signs and go it alone again! We followed for what seemed like a long time, we saw some big blue signs that we thought could possibly be the tunnels and turned it. We pulled up to asked where we should park and this man pointed and muffled and said it was over the bridge. Well we saw and bridge… and went to go over it, not realising we were actually now driving around a lorry driving school. This only came to light when we realised about 10 people shouting at us to get off! We couldn't believe it, how hilarious. We had just completely gatecrashed this persons driving test hahaaa!
We drove out of there as quickly as possible, with just enough time to ask a little old man where the tunnels were. He again, muffled and pointed and we set off again with our fingers crossed.
So it was about an hour since we had turned the satnav off but we finally found the tunnels YAY What a great sense of satisfaction it did however turn from 30km to 65! Top tip, next time pay the £7 and get someone to take you!
When we arrived it was quite quiet so we headed straight into the tunnels, i thought this was something we were going to be able to do alone but we had to wait for a tour guide to take us around so we didn't get lost apparently and then turns out we were the only English speaking ones in our group so had to wait a crappy film on the Cu Chi Tunnels for 20 minutes whilst we waited for an English guide. Whilst we were waiting we were joined by another rather friendly Malarian guy and his family. Once the 1786 made film was finally over we were allowed to go and explore.
It was crazy, these guys built a 200km underground town to save them all from the war! We were allowed to go down some of the tunnels, James went down a lot more than i did as i soon encountered a bat on our travels and didn't fancy bumping into another one!! :/ Plus if i had have got stuck it really would have ruined my day. These tunnels were made for Vietnamese people, not English girls with big asses.
We were glad we visited the tunnels, it was again another thrilling cultural experience! & we were home by 1.30 so had the rest of the day to drink, which we did! :)
We found a bar that sold DESPERADOS! It was the best day of our lives, We were only going to have one and this turned into 6 plus, mainly because we met 2 american guys that we got chatting too. They were cool, one of them actually came from Vietnam so we were asking him loads of questions about what kind of girls he fancied.. Such an obvious question ofcourse?!
We were going to meet them in a rock bar later on in the evening but after an afternoon of drinking we got abit tired in the evening…
We had some food at a sports bar which also sold Desperados! This is like a new thing for Vietnam and there just launching it. There was a girl in there promoting it and she gave us 3 mini bottles and 2 Desperados torches! She gave me one first, James was sad about this. I ordered a lasagne and just as i was about to tuck in i noticed a massive hair on my fork!! LIVID. I showed the waiter and it just took it off with a napkin and didn't want to do anything else! Luckily the manager came along and took it away to make a new one, she also gave it to me for free, But i was really that hungry for it afterwards believe it or not :/
We headed home with our souvenir bottle of Desperados, feeling very proud of all our new goodies.
