Today was the 2nd day of our biking adventure, we were up @ 8am again to get downstairs for some breakfast before heading off. We were made omelettes and given 2 baguettes, so we did this breakfast into an omelette baguette :/
After this we kicked up and set off again - Today the weather was lovely so there was no need for the amazing blue waterproof outfit or wellies!
Our main stop today was Hai Van Pass the route that top gear took when they visited Vietnam.
We had to drive to Da Nang to get there. On the way he stopped at some sort of local mayors house, he was just sat in his porch making a drum, as you do…
It was a bit awkward as our tour guide told him we were married (he literally though we were on our honeymoon the whole time, i seriously do not know where he got this from…?!) and then all the mayor (i don't even know if he was a mayor but he was something important so we'll just call him that) and his wifey kept asking us if we were having a baby, like seriously?! Do i look pregnant?! NO WOMAN. We were 'allowed' to look around there house, we had no interest in doing this but felt obliged. In his living room he had a lovely feature… A coffin. Yes you read correctly, he kept his coffin which HE made for HIMSELF for when he dies… in his lounge area. Very creepy.
We then went to have a look at his pet Python… Also weird.
And just before we were about to leave his wifey offers us a shot of something that really dosent look or smell good, and it came from a happy water bottle like we had the previous night, so we were scared. They were adamant we were to try this, but i wimped out and make James do both the shots. He hates me for this.
After this strange experience we were back on the road, We had several banana stops on the way (they have the best bananas over here, and there so tiny!)
We made it to the Hai Van Pass just before lunch. The road was amazing and James massively enjoyed driving up it, the view looked right over the beach, sea and town. We reached the top and had time to explore and old American war bunker before heading back down.
I tried to film James the whole way down but i got a dead arm just near the end!
We then headed to the 'Marble Mountains' We were too sure what these were but were part off our trip so we got involved.
The entrance was cool, a Marble (obviously) walkway which animal heads parallel to it.
Inside it was massive, with loads of little statues everywhere. Some were really weird and graphic of like people being murdered and stuff… I didn't really understand why those were in there :/
We then had to climb up like quite a few stairs to reach the top of something we thought was going to be amazing but when we reached the top, the view was invaded by trees that really needed to be cut down so we couldn't see anything! Very annoying as i was rather sweaty at this point. So we headed back to the bikes.
Last stop was lunch before we headed into Hoi An. We had beef noodle soup again which was nice, James enjoys it more than i do and our guide is forever putting things into the soup which I really don't want in there :/ I requested a beer, drank it quickly, paid our very cheap noodle soup bill and onwards to our last leg of the journey. It took about 1 to get to Hoi An, Once there he took us to a tailor he recommended (which we later found out was his sisters! #ripoff) He got measured for a few things but felt rushed and so wasn't 100% sure whether we would go back for this or not… :/
We reached our Homestay about 3ish, it was really nice and the family are so sweet! Dont really speak any English but we can deal with that. We put our things in the room. Rented one of there crappy mopeds and headed into Hoi An to explore.
