So, we have arrived! I'm updating early as we have a packed schedule ahead for the next few days (plus the internet is free here!)
Our flight left around 10am so it was straight onto the films! Somehow we managed to eat 4 meals in the next 12 hours, all of which were curry of some description. Ollie was obviously looking particularly hungry at lunch when they forced a second meal onto him!
Flight went really quickly and we arrived in Mumbai quite relaxed...until the hours of queing to get through security. Ollie began to realise the hassle of travelling with a girl - he got through the men's security about an hour before me, then waited ages again for the ladies toilet queue!
Our plan to sleep through the mumbai-Bangkok flight worked well (after being disrupted to eat...again) and we arrived semi-refreshed at 7am local time (I was desperate to go back to sleep, Ollie was acting like a child at Christmas). We navigated the bus to the city well, but it seems BAngkok is vastly overpopulated and what we think is about a 10 mile journey took around 3 hours! Luckily the bus had aircon and Ollie has a comfy shoulder! :)
Our hostel here is amazing! We checked in straight away but decided to head out instead of nap. The street food looked interested to say the least, but I'm sure I'll get the courage to try it eventually! We wandered the streets for a few hours then ended up in a vegetarian/vegan restuarant for lunch eating rice, noodles and tofu then drinking beer sitting on floor cushions. It was very traveller-esk!
Booking a train turned out to be more difficult than we'd thought. We grabbed a TukTuk who told us the travel agents had to sell tickets for the same price as the station, and the fools that we are, believed him! So we ended up sitting in this man's mate's toruist office arguing about the price of train tickets! Luckily Ollie had his wits about him and we walked out (I think I would have bought them there and then without him!) The driver, who had waited outside for us, decided that he wouldn't take us to the train station without a detour to another mates shop so we walked away from him too without a clue where we were in the city! A nicer tuktuk took us the station where the tickets were a lot cheaper!
Walking 4.5Km home in the 30 degree heat wasn't the best idea we'd had, but the nap afterwards made it well worth it! We then headed out to the night market, which we couldn't find, so really we just went for drinks along with the rest of the English travelling population to the bars near KhoSan Road. Managed to last until 10pm until bed, which I thought was pretty impressive!
Off to Chang Mai on a sleeper train tonight which will be exciting!
