Welcome to Cairns our furthest stop north on the trip before we start heading back down the coast. We arrived from Mission Beach on Friday and checked into the Koalas hostel for a week. After checking in we decided to go for a wander around town to check the place out. The town was much like most of the places on the east coast with little cafes and restaurants lining the beach front. We then headed into a sports store and purchase a cricket bat seen as we have participated in basically no sporting activities whatsoever for the past 3 months and it showed! All of us were blowing out of our arses after a few innings so we called it a day and headed back to the hostel for happy hour in the bar (now this is something we've become good at!lol) before heading out to a nightspot called the "woolshed" which we had been told was the place to go for a nightout and I believe it was but we cant remember much of it!
During the day we've been heading down to the man made beach called "the Lagoon" to top up the old tans and seen as Cairns is so far up the east coast the weather's been amazing. The Lagoon is basically a huge outdoor swimming pool packed with people every day, mainly Sweedish but thats not a bad thing!
The next night we bumped into an old friend called big Rob (no not big Rob Whitehead) who was a part of the notorious room five gang from Surfers Paradise. So instead of having the quiet night in which we had planed we ended up going to the Rhino bar for the all you can drink for 10 dollars night. Again a good night but a messy one, the bar was like a free-for-all with people wanting to get as much liqour down there throats as possible. The following night was spent chilling in the bar watching the footy. First up was Spurs vs Arsenal which was a pretty good match and Dave was happy seen as Spurs got a lucky equaliser in the last Minute. Then it was the mighty Blades taking on Charlton, it was a shocking game to watch but the boys managed to come away with a point in the end, which was good enough.
Cairns has been another great place to visit on our travels and its been great bumping into some old friends again. So for now people ciao bella speak to ya soon!
