Bob and Nicks excellent adventures
Ok I think we left you as we were preparing to embark on a mission of a walk up to a hut in the middle of nowhere. The lady who sold the idea had obviously not realized how f***in hard core we are because the walk up, although a solid 2 hours wasn't that bad, there were no rivers to cross, no one was dying on route which may have caused us the dilemma of saving them or summating and there were no cliffs to climb...Even the mountain 'hut' was cozy, running water + lights more of a mountain side palace than the promised mountain shack. The view from the top was awesome! Awesome for the full 20 mins we saw it when the cloud broke, the rest of the time it was b******s! Probably 20 meter visibility. Anyway the next day we decided that we would hardcore it down, and the running training we did with a backpack years ago came into its own....We shaved 2 hours off the 4.5hr first trip by running intersections of the return leg, swapping the 15Kg backpack every few mins. Needless to say this f***ed us up and we were aching so bad the next day we nearly splashed out on a massage (an above board one)......nearly but not quite.
Day 2 - Fishing! Blue Cod a plenty! (In the water, not in our bellys)
Yeh, Check out the photos on this one. What a f***in Day! The views! If you had to chill out in the sunshine next to some water, trying to unsuccessfully outwit a fish anywhere, then this would have to be the plaice. A s*** load of steak and chips for tea then! - Steaks better than stinking fish anyday!
Day 3 - Boat racing
After doing this woofin business, and hitching around we were feeling kinda well off so we decided to do a days kayaking on Milford Sound. An early start, worsened by some f***in inconsiderate tossers (the kind that take a lot of photos) making noise for ages - us old men need our sleep. We were greeted by a quality day, It rains for 200 days a year at Milford, and just our luck - Sunshine and plenty of it, hardly a cloud in the sky all day! Milford was absolutely wicked, the day was money well spent, even a little stinkin Seal came right up to my Kayak - I was going to try and kill it but couldn't quite reach.
Day 4 - Today!
After having to wait a full 2 hours by the side of the road, and feeling a little disheartened we couldn't believe our luck when a refuge truck stopped by and picked us up! It was a full blown 2 carrage lorry, and we sat high and dry....it was cool. Second ride was with some guy who was mentally ill and had been in prison, he also was driving a 17 ton truck, he bought us egg and bacon pie and was quite amusing, didn't loose his temper and dropped us off 170K later, back in Queenstown. Heavy - Another Text book Hitch Hike mission.
