Mary saw a great lake (Erie) for the first time in her life!
Not a thrilling day otherwise. We rode on a rail to trail, and were accompanied by a track-fixing parade of honking big truck/train things which played havoc with the crossing signals.
Farms, trees, some cows, not a lot to speak of. Our lodging here in Huron is wedged between train tracks and a freeway. We are only a mile from the lake but you wouldnt know it! Pretty grim. I used my phone to locate a lunch spot at a golf course-it was like most such spots. We all had the perch.
The server recommended we go to the resort beach- so Mary, Jean, and I found our way there...supposedly for guests only, but whatever! The water was a great temperature, and it was neat to see Mary with her first great lake!
We tried to check out the nature preserve next door- but I felt bad violating preserve rules and insisted we walk our bikes. In retrospect, we probably should have ridden to see it at the water. As it stood, we got sick of walking the bikes about halfway there and turned around. Well, we saw a tad bit of the marsh!
Tomorrow, Cleveland:
2 songs from the 1st half
When there's gravel
As we travel
We yell gravel
To warn the other riders
Of the gravel, in the intersection
So they don't fall down and ruin their complexion
-as we ride across
The flat Midwestern plain
-we see the water towers
Again and again
At some of the towers, we might find a town
But most of the time
There ain't no one around
....there's just
CORN and ASPHALT
CORN and ASPHALT
CORN and ASPHALT
Tracks.
(repeat)
-- so There's a
Grain elevator, At some of the towns
They put the
Grain
On the
Train
And they
Move it around
-- through the
CORN and ASPHALT
CORN and ASPHALT
CORN and ASPHALT
Tracks.
