Koh Tao another highlight of the trip so far.
20/09/07 - Arrived on Koh Tao by fast ferry and we're greeted by a dodgy wooden ramp that looked like it would break at any point plus it was raining pretty heavy, not what you need when your half asleep. Checked into our resort Buddha View only to be told there had been a mix up with rooms and there were none with air con left. Gutted our travel was still haunting us. Then they said its ok we're upgrading you. We had a luxury apartment with its own pool called the FAMOUS HOUSE. About time we had some good luck. Before we had time to even go and look at it we had our diving orientation which was the cheesiest american film in the world. It was bad enough without the power cut we had half way through. Dodgy Thai electric, you can hear the power lines bussing as you pass under them. Anyways early night first dive at 9 the next day.
21/09/07 - 2 hours of theory in the morning which was easy enough, then a session in the pool. Learning how to set up the equipment and putting it to use. After that we had a BBQ and hit the sack first proper dive in the morning. I should probably mention we met Team Ireland today and they plan on doing the PADI course even though 2 of them can't even swim... we'll see how that goes.
22/09/07 - Some theory followed by our first dive in the afternoon. The dive was pretty cool practised some skills then did a little dive to about 6metres and saw loads of fish.
23/09/07 - A lie in...yes!! Followed by an exam... Nooo! It was ok 48 out of 50 isn't bad!! Maybe a little cheating / discussion between the Guernsey boys helped but thats not the point. Then our first proper dive. With Ian and Jonny excelling our team was split so we could explore a bit more. Went to 12metres at a place called White Rock. Then our second dive was at Japanese Gardens again saw lots of cool fish.
24/09/07 - Our deepest dive yet at 18 metres but also our earliest start at 6.45am. It was good visibility and we're really looking forward to it. We were diving with an Italian couple today which proved to be an absolute nightmare. Typically travel luck coming back. The Italian girl was having big problems equalising her ears so we spent most of the time looking at sand and the rope.
Second dive of the day and the final one of our Open Water involved horse racing under water and kissing randomn people very funny. Course finished it was party time. Had some beers at the resort and was about to call it a night as we'd planned to do our advanced open water which started at 6.45 again when some clowns dragged us to Sairee beach which was an awesome night, getting to bed at 2 was not however the best plan.
25/09/07 - Day 1 of the Advanced Open Water course. First dive was the Multi-level dive going to a max depth of 24m with an Irish instructor whos beard was longer than his hair. Second dive was our Peak Performance Buoyancy which was just practising how to float in the water. This was Shark Island but didn't see any sharks. As it was quite a heavy night we we're starting to feel the strain but needed to do another dive today so we could ram 5 dives in 2 days to complete the course. Spent 10 hours on a boat as some of you may know I'm not exactly the best sailor let alone when hungover. Anyways we did a naturalist dive at Aow Leuk. A bit nervous as previously our instructor had mentioned that this dive was a nude dive. What a joker our instructor was.
26/09/07 - Last day in Koh Tao and still 2 more dives to do but this would prove to be the best two dives yet. Having not seen any cool fish (pufferfish, moray eel, stingray, sharks, triggerfish) today was the last chance and we desperately wanted to tick all those boxes. And we got every single one and one more The WHALE SHARK and not only that we had an underwater camera to catch it all and we were now qualified Advanced Open Water Divers. Sad to leave to Buddha View but tonight is the full moon party in Koh Phangan.
Still our travel luck haunts us. Someone screwed up our boat ticket and we weren't booked on the boat luckily we could get the later boat but that meant hanging round for 3 hours ah well off to Koh Phangan.
