Nashville is probably one of the most liveliest place I have ever been to! It has the atmosphere of a festival all day long. Music everywhere, cheap booze, and double shots. It's a shame we were only there for one night. Started drinking at 4pm and ended up wasted and in bk at the hostel by 1030. Will definitely be going back there to listen to some more music and drink fireball shots!!
Travelled to Memphis the next day and pretty much went straight to the Sun Studios tour. That was so cool getting to stand in the same room where Elvis and Johnny cash first began and listening to the first recordings they ever did. We asked the people who worked there where to go for dinner/drinks. The suggest Earnestine & Hazels, which used to be a brothel and the decor hasn't really changed that much so it still quite eerie with holes in the wall, cobwebs everywhere. You can also walk upstairs and look around which is very creepy because the rooms still have a lot of old furniture in. Downstairs before you go up there's newspaper clippings of various haunted experiences that supposedly happen there. The jazz band that played were quite good, although we felt bad because at some point we were the only ones there.
The next day started off in Graceland. Again it was fascinating walking around his house which would have been as he left it before he died. The headphones said that when he was alive he always kept the upstairs private and only ever greeted people downstairs, so out of respect we weren't allowed to go upstairs. I did wonder though, how much of his stuff was original and how much has had to be replaced or retouched up. I didn't know Elvis was a twin, but his brother was stillborn. If he had lived, i wonder whether they would share the same talent. Imagine that, 2 elvis's.
Walked around for a bit after and went to a pub and drank River Ghost which is brewed in Tennessee. Quite nice. Then went to the kooky Canuck and most of us had salads because we're a bit sick of burgers and things in a bun.
Anyway, off to New Orleans tomorrow!! Long drive but I think it will be great for music and drinking. Hopefully the whether will be much nicer there too!!
