Grouse Mountain and Capliano Suspension Bridge.
On this trip we took a bus tour with one of the local companies to two of Vancouvers main attractions.
Grouse mountain, also known as the peak of Vancouver, was our first stop. It is a 15-20min drive from downtown Vancouver. From the base of the mountain we caught the Skyride gondola to take us up the the logde. The sky ride, a 1 mile long trip high above towering Douglas firs, breathtaking views of the city of Vancouver, Pacific Ocean, Gulf Islands, and snowy peaks unfold as you journey up the mountainside.
From here you can ski/board, iceskate, take a sleigh ride, enjoy the cafes, watch several movies, shop and eat & drink. During summer the mountain acts as a wildlife refuge for orphaned or injured animals until they are ready to be released into the wild. The center has two resident bear cubs who were rescued after there mother was killed but have had to much human contact to be released back into the wild. We watched a movie about their life and were able to see them hibernating in their den through a video camera. There was also an enclosure where we saw two white wolves. We went on the sleigh ride, this was pulled by a machine instead of horses which was disappointing but it was snowing the entire time we were there which was really fun.
After a couple of other small stops we arrived at Capilano Suspension Bridge.
The suspension bridge, the main attraction, is 138m long and 70m high. After crossing the bridge there is a treetops boardwalk, several trout lakes (where we saw NO trout), observation decks, and a cliff hanger board walk. We spent about 1 1/2 hours walking around exploring the costal temperate rainforest. We found a squirrel along the way, who we watched darting around until he was out of sight.
I have added a few photos but have put more on facebook.
