We arrived in Whistler on the 5th and checked out the village. Fraz took us out to the bars the first night. It was gay pride weekend which made for some funny stories.
We spent the next day up the mountain, Craig skiing and me snow boarding. Fraz showed us his favourite runs. We spent the morning on Whistler mountain then caught the Peak to Peak gondala over the Blackcomb mountain for the afternoon. The snow was great in the morning as we has ~3cm snow overnight. Fraz took us into the trees and knee deep powder! It was a bit icey in the afternoon. The peak to peak gondala opened in Dec 08 and joins Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. It was a awesome ride with great views.
The next day we went ziplining and dog sledding. The zipline tour we did with ziptrek featured 5 different ziplines, including a 2000-foot monster zipline that dropped 20 stories. It was super fun. The last line was called a freestyle line where we all acheived the upside down move! The tour also included a tree top boardwalk which was pretty cool.
The dog sleddng took us into the Soo Valley, one of the glacial valleys in Whistler. We were one of the 3 couples to have our own sled. We had a guide sled in front, two other sleds with couples, us and then another guide sled following behind. Craig and I both had a turn at driving our sled with 4 dogs pulling us. It was pretty funny when we passed one of the guys in front of us standing on the side of the trail and saw his sled with his wife inside taking off in front of us! He had lost the sled about 30 secs into the ride. It was a pretty stop start ride as the sleds in front of us were a bit slow. Other than that it was very fun and a great way to see more of the area.
The following day we left Whistler in the morning and it was snowing lightly. The first snow fall we have seen hopefully there will be more to come.
