Driving in a snow storm was pretty exciting/interesting, the road was pretty bad. There were trucks and cars along the highway that had slid off the road and were waiting for a tow. We tried to take an alternative route that was supposed to be more scenic but about 5 meters down the turnoff we were in 2 meters of snow so decided that wasn’t such a good idea and headed back to the highway. We missed the turn off to Lake Louise, thanks to my excellent navigation skills, so had to turn around and drive back a few meters to get back to it. Little did we know (because we could see very well with all the snow) we were driving on the wrong side of the road! A few toots and flashing lights later we were on the turn off and we made it in one piece. There was also a truck trying to reverse back as he had done the same thing so at least we weren’t the only ones.
Once we got to Lake Louise we found out that people were being advised not to drive the road we had just driven, no surprises there! We checked in early to our hotel and waited out the storm.
The next day we woke to sunshine and clear skies! So we visited the famous and beautiful Lake Louise and headed over to the gondola that took us up the snowfield for stunning views. The photos will tell all. The after some lunch we took the Icefields Parkway (highway) to Jasper.
