Seven days at Spanish School......really four an a half days of intense learning, interspersed with excursions to the traditional markets in Antigua, a trip to San Antonio to observe Mayan culture and leaving the school early to go to Panajachel.
Wow, what an experience the lessons were, I had a lovely teacher called Lucia who was really empathetic and made the lessons more fun with games when I had a melt down about day four when I felt I was getting nowhere and learning nothing.
The office was on Calle 1 right in Antigua near La Merced, a beautiful church. Our lessons were conducted in El Jardin a distance away on the edge of Antigua. We walked there every day. Lessons were four hours and then we walked home for lunch.
We managed to do lots of different things after classes had finished, filling each and every afternoon! I did a wonderful Salsa, Bachata free lesson on the Tuesday then a Baile dance workout at the gym with Hazel on Wednesday, then another Salsa, Bachata free lesson on Thursday followed by a private Salsa, Bachata lesson with Manolo again on Friday, wonderful!!
All in all learning Spanish was an intense, but great experience.
On Saturday Hazel and I had brunch with her friend Linda, an expat American she met at the gym. Linda fell in love with Antigua and has retired there. She volunteers at a hospital for children with disabilities who have been abandoned. We were then treated to a tour of her villa, wow, beautiful and filled with fabulous furniture and paintings. An interesting and passionate woman who was a pleasure to get to know.
