My teacher took me on a tour of the local vegetable, fruit and artisan markets today. What an experience! I am glad that I had a guide so I didn't get lost in that rabbit warren and so I knew how to ensure my belongs were safe - back pack on your front please. Also I was advised not to take close up photos, although I did manage a couple by accident.
The sights, smells and sounds of these markets filled the air, the fish and prawns were were especially fragrant. People jostled each other and the activity was frenetic. The markets are open Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday with Sunday being the busiest (we were there on a Thursday). Lucia, my teacher shops here, but goes on a Sunday.
An abundance of produce, all fresh filled these markets. It is amazing to think that tomorrow these stalls will be gone and the place empty. A section filled with fresh flowers of all descriptions enticed me to buy a huge bunch... Oh well, not this time.
The artisan markets were across the road, these are permanent with the stalls surrounding each courtyard complete with a fountain. Marimba bands play here on Saturdays, none of this music for me though...not my taste.
It was a mouthwatering excursion and the amount of fruit that I am eating is phenomenal. Hazel and I will make another foray here to the Artisan markets.
