Carol, Shannon, Julian (Shannon's son), and I visited the Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin's zoo).
The day started out a bit wet, as we experienced what seemed like a torrential downpour... And once we purchased the plastic ponchos from the gift shop, the rain stopped! Even though it was super humid, the rain left everything so clean and green!
This zoo is probably the nicest zoo I've ever been to! And I took quite a bit if photos to show off the beautiful animals that call it home. I even had one of the tiger cub trainers take 7 up-close photos of the cubs sleeping!! (Best $5 I've ever spent - no, it wasn't a bribe, it was a donation to be a tiger warrior)
Not only did I get these great photos, but I was able to get hands-on with the kangaroos and koalas! Not going to lie, I was super scared that the kangaroo was going to kick, bite, hop away... But they were so tame, they could not have cared less that humans were around. And the koalas didn't even wake up! To me, the kangaroo fur resembled deer, and the koala just felt like a cotton ball.
The croc show at the Crocoseum was thrilling! We got there a little late, since we were on the other side of the park, but we saw the birds do some tricks and fly around... And then Munga the croc came out! Holy friggin moley!! I video'd his entrance - I'll download it as soon as I can get to a desktop computer... But needless to say, it was scary, and I was up in the stands!!
We then ate lunch, overlooking the croc pits. Thankfully we were under cover when it started raining again - the crocs didn't seem to mind the raindrops, either ;)
The whole day was fantastic!! No trip is complete without a quick run through the gift shop... And a look through of the Steve Irwin memorabilia photos.
I began the day with a general respect for Steve Irwin, and left in awe of just really what he accomplished in his life! He was so incredibly passionate, and extremely determined - and you can see the benefits of his hard work in this zoo.

Martha I viewed all of your pictures, Beth--Wow!! So wonderful to get up close and personal with the "Aussie" animals!! Those Siberian tigers were amazing, along with, of course, my favorite, the koalas. I, too, was able to pet them, when we were there, and they are sooooo soft!! So glad to see that you are having such a great time. Am looking forward to seeing the rest of your pictures.....
