Hello,
So we have reached Chiang Mai, the train was a nightmare though! We met Esthers dad at the train station so that was all good and we got on the train. Had a lovely meal and were tucked up in bed by 10 0'clock. I didn't sleep that well so i was aware that we were stopped at some points during the night. Foolishly i thought we must be running ahead of schedule and so waiting in a station to get back in time. Breakfast was strange but OK, we had it at about 7 0'clock. By half 9 we pulled into a station (we were supposed to be in Chiang Mai by quarter to ten) and we checked our timetable and discovered we should have been at this station at 4:30am. We eventually got to Chiang Mai by 3 0'clock, 5 and a quarter hours late with no explanation and no lunch! So we were pretty hungry, got ourselves booked in guesthouse then went and got some food. Its stange here though time doesnt seem to matter, no-one seemed at all bothered that we were so late, we wouldnt have been either if we werent so hungry. Next week when we get the train back to Bangkok we are definately taking emergency food supplies!
So Chiang Mai is a nice change from Bangkok, its much smaller and less hectic, and its very backpackery (made up word). Think i might do some serious shopping which will be good :)
Tomorow we think we might do the temples, and we have been looking into some treks that we could do, thinking we might do a 2 day, 1 night trek.
So I will let you know more once we have had some more experinces in Chiang Mai
