Hello from Kanchanaburi,
The journey here took so much longer than expectd, we have decided our maps are not to scale and the transport system in thailand is slightly ridiculous. Nothing connects to anything and the bus terminals are miles out of town. After a skytrain and a rather long walk and some directions from a helpful canadian woman we found the northern bus terminal, then after going on a wild goose chase round the bus station we eventually found the right ticket office and the bus. The bus took three hours to get here then we had to get a tuktuk into town cos the station here is miles away too. Though my first ever tuktuk ride was rather exciting.
We are staying in a nice little gueshouse by the river in sort of a wooden hut on stilts which is cool. We think we managd to tell the maids that we were going away for the night, or phrasebook is invaluable for trying to converse with them!
So we have been to the death railway museum, the kanchanburi war cemetry and the bridge over the river kwai today. It was a pretty sobering experience but really interesting too.
We think we might try to get to erawan waterfalls tomorrow depending on if we can work out the buses to get there. We are really starting to feel like backpackers now that we are moving around and having so much organising to do.
Im very happy to be back in the countrysie after being in bangkok, for intance this internet is costing us 10baht instead of 40 for half an hour, much better! Ill update when we get back to bangkok
